Accompanied by an experienced historian guide, you will explore its rich heritage while navigating charming narrow lanes and stone steps surrounding the iconic Queen’s Palace. Afterwards, the journey continues eastward toward Andasibe National Park.

This route is one of the country’s busiest highways, linking the capital, Antananarivo, with the major seaport of Toamasina, and is often filled with lively traffic. Today, you will explore the remarkable primary rainforest of Mantadia National Park alongside your guide. Although the trails can be more challenging to navigate, the park offers a richer and more rewarding experience due to its untouched nature and fewer visitors.

Surrounded by dense tropical vegetation, you will walk among intertwining lianas, towering bamboo, palm trees, precious hardwoods like dalbergia, and impressive giant ferns. Mantadia is home to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, including over 100 species of orchids, around 14 kinds of lemurs, and a wide variety of birdlife. With some luck, you may hear the distinctive calls of the Indri Indri and even spot them moving gracefully through the forest canopy.

As evening approaches, you will head out again with your guide for a night walk in a community-managed reserve. This unique experience offers the chance to observe nocturnal creatures such as tiny lemurs, colourful chameleons, and fascinating frogs in their natural environment.

Accompanied by an experienced local guide, you will set out to explore this protected reserve, which is largely covered by pristine primary rainforest unique to Madagascar’s eastern region. This remarkable ecosystem shelters an impressive range of rare and endemic wildlife, making it a true highlight for nature enthusiasts.

Among its most notable inhabitants is the Indri indri, the largest species of lemur, whose striking calls and social behaviour offer a fascinating experience. Your guide will provide detailed insights into its habits and habitat. In addition, you may encounter other species such as the grey bamboo lemur (Hapalemur griseus) and the woolly lemur (Avahi laniger), along with various other forest dwellers.

The plant life is equally captivating, with numerous medicinal species thriving in this rich environment. After a rewarding day of exploration and discovery, you will return to your hotel to relax and reflect on the day’s memorable encounters.

After breakfast, the journey continues further east through Madagascar’s scenic landscapes. You will travel along a route lined with Ravinala, also known as the traveller’s tree, creating a distinctive and picturesque setting on the way to Brickaville. From there, the road becomes more rugged as you follow a less-developed track leading to Mananbato, located on the shores of Lake Rasoabe.

Upon arrival, the adventure continues by boat, offering a peaceful and unique perspective of the surroundings. You will cruise along the Pangalanes Canal, a network of waterways bordered by lush vegetation, until reaching Ankaniny’ny Nofy. This tranquil destination is beautifully situated between serene lagoons and the vast Indian Ocean, providing a perfect setting to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty.

Accompanied by a guide, you will have the opportunity to observe several fascinating species of lemurs in their natural environment, including Indri-Indri, sifaka, crowned lemurs, and black-and-white ruffed lemurs.

The area also boasts remarkable plant life, featuring orchids, carnivorous species, ebony, mahogany, and the iconic traveller’s palm, offering a truly authentic Madagascar experience.

Travelling through the scenic waters of Lakes Rasoabe, Rasoamasay, and Ampitabe, you will follow the historic Canal des Pangalanes, an extensive waterway constructed in the early 20th century. Stretching over 400 kilometres along Madagascar’s eastern coastline, from Toamasina to Manakara, this canal connects a network of lakes, rivers, and lagoons.
