This newer green-season event brings coffee, local products, craft workshops, food and environmental activities to Phra Ae Beach Public Park. By 2026 it had reached its third edition, mixing a relaxed seaside festival atmosphere with creative businesses and sustainability-focused displays.

Thailand’s traditional New Year is celebrated nationwide from 13 to 15 April. Koh Lanta joins the national celebration, while the festival’s deeper traditions include family gatherings, merit-making and showing respect to elders. Local activities can vary from year to year.

Thai cultural research describes Koh Lanta as a multi-ethnic society shaped by Muslim, Chinese-Thai, Thai and sea-people communities. Shared trade, food, schooling and ceremonies have helped create a local identity while each group maintains parts of its own heritage.

Urak Lawoi communities retain strong links with the sea through fishing, language, music and ceremonies. Research records Loy Ruea, Rong Ngeng performance traditions and maritime livelihoods, although younger generations increasingly work in tourism and other occupations.

Lanta Old Town brings several strands of the island’s identity together. Festivals, food and small family businesses make the old settlement one of Koh Lanta’s clearest cultural anchors.

Khlong Khong offers a sociable west-coast evening, with small bars and places to eat close to the sand. Sunset tends to set the pace, followed by music and casual drinks rather than large clubs, keeping the experience in step with Koh Lanta’s relaxed character.

Long Beach, or Phra Ae, stays spacious as its bars and restaurants begin filling before sunset. Evenings move from drinks by the sand into dinner and low-key music, suiting travellers who want atmosphere without a dedicated party strip.

Saladan is the island’s main service and arrival area, with markets, restaurants and businesses around northern Koh Lanta Yai. It feels busier than many beach areas in the evening and works well for casual dining, browsing shops, picking up supplies or arranging the next day’s excursions.

On the east coast, Lanta Old Town offers an entirely different evening. Restaurants occupy traditional wooden buildings and extend towards the water, creating a quieter setting for seafood and southern Thai dishes. It is better suited to a long dinner than a late-night bar crawl.

Live music appears at seasonal events and venues around Koh Lanta, but the island is rarely dominated by nightlife. Beachfront evenings, sunset gatherings and festival stages provide enough energy for a night out, while quieter stretches remain easy to find.
