The Ronda Verda is a 72-kilometre circular cycling route linking some of Barcelona’s greenest areas, including Collserola, the Besòs riverfront, Montjuïc and the seafront. Visitors can experience several different landscapes while seeing how closely the city connects with its surrounding natural spaces.

The Carretera de les Aigües runs for almost 10 kilometres along the Collserola ridge, offering broad views across Barcelona. Visitors can walk or cycle along its mostly level route while seeing the city spread between the Mediterranean, Tibidabo and the surrounding hills.

Collserola Natural Park stretches across roughly 8,000 hectares behind Barcelona, with woodland, fields and Mediterranean vegetation forming the city’s largest natural backdrop. Human towers, or castells, are one of Catalonia’s most recognisable traditions. Teams work together to build tiered towers several people high, often during neighbourhood festivals. Correfocs turn Barcelona’s streets into noisy, theatrical fire runs led by groups dressed as devils. Sparks, drums and dancing fill the route as participants move through the crowd, particularly during major local festivals, creating one of the city’s most energetic traditional spectacles.

The sardana is one of Catalonia’s best-known traditional dances, performed in a circle with participants joining hands and following precise steps. Visitors may see public sardana gatherings accompanied by a cobla ensemble, especially around squares and cultural celebrations in Barcelona.

Modernisme is woven through Barcelona far beyond Gaudí’s headline buildings. Visitors can spot colourful façades, decorative ironwork, stained glass and floral details across the Eixample, where architects turned ordinary streets into one of Europe’s most distinctive urban landscapes.

Each August, Gràcia’s streets are transformed with elaborate decorations, concerts, workshops and traditional festivities created by local residents. The night of 23 June marks Sant Joan with fireworks, bonfires, music and gatherings across Barcelona ahead of the public holiday on 24 June. Beaches, squares and neighbourhoods become especially lively during this long-standing midsummer celebration.

Every 23 April, Barcelona celebrates Sant Jordi with books and roses taking over streets across the city. Visitors can browse bookstalls, meet authors and see buildings and public spaces decorated for one of Catalonia’s most distinctive cultural traditions.
