Le Morne Holidays

The climb up Le Morne Brabant takes roughly three to four hours, with the final stretch becoming steep and rocky. Visitors reaching the upper sections are rewarded with wide views across the peninsula’s reefs, lagoons and turquoise shallows.

Sega Tipik has deep roots in Le Morne, where villagers once gathered beneath a banyan tree at Trou Chenille to sing and dance through the night. Visitors can learn how traditional instruments such as the ravann, maravann and triyang shaped this important Creole tradition.

Trou Chenille was the first village established around Le Morne after the abolition of slavery and became home to descendants of formerly enslaved people. Visitors can explore its open-air museum, where reconstructed huts interpret cooking, weaving, music and everyday village life.

Every 1 February, Le Morne becomes the national focal point for remembering the abolition of slavery in Mauritius. Visitors may see wreath-laying at the International Monument on the Routes of Enslaved Peoples, followed by speeches, music and cultural performances around Le Morne Public Beach.
