Al Bidya Mosque is the UAE’s oldest mosque still in use, with radiocarbon evidence placing its construction between the mid fifteenth and mid seventeenth centuries. Its four unequal domes rest on one central pillar. UNESCO has listed the site on its Tentative List since 2012.

Fujairah Fort has watched over the old city for centuries and played an important defensive role in the emirate’s history. Dating to the 16th century, it stands on an elevated site overlooking Fujairah and remains one of the emirate’s largest and most important historic forts.

Al Bithnah Fort stands in Wadi Ham, around 13 kilometres from Fujairah City, surrounded by mountains and agricultural land. Built by the Sharqiyin in the 17th century, its strategic position made it an important defensive stronghold during later conflicts in the region.

Built around 1830 in Wadi Al Hayl, Al Hayl Castle belonged to Fujairah’s ruling family and still feels closely tied to its mountain setting. The surviving structures are modest beside grander Gulf forts, but their isolation helps explain the site’s strategic character.

Awhala, also written Ouhala, Fort sits on the northern edge of the Hajar Mountains. The present fort dates to around 1800, but official Fujairah material notes that it stands on the site of a considerably earlier fortification, giving the place unusual archaeological depth.

Habhab Fort was built in the late nineteenth century to protect the village oasis, working with defensive towers positioned on the nearby hills. It is a useful reminder that Fujairah’s forts were not only royal monuments; many were practical safeguards for settlements and water.

Just south of Fujairah Fort, Fujairah Museum brings the emirate’s past into one compact collection. Archaeological finds reach back to the early Bronze Age, while displays on traditional life, crafts and local customs help connect those objects to the communities that used them.

Fujairah Heritage Village offers a glimpse into traditional Emirati life through recreated homes, old tools and everyday household objects. Located in the Madabb district of Fujairah City, the village was established in 1996 and helps visitors understand how local communities once lived.

Philosophy House is a quietly distinctive addition to Fujairah’s cultural scene. Official tourism material describes it as the UAE’s first cultural establishment devoted to philosophy, with programmes linked to Arab philosopher Dr Ahmed Barqawi and a broader focus on ideas, discussion and reading.

Set in the historic home of the late Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamdan Al Sharqi near Fujairah Fort, Bait Al Fan gives a heritage building a contemporary cultural role. Its setting makes the visit feel rooted in place rather than like a conventional gallery stop.

Merbeh’s Sea Museum feels inseparable from Fujairah’s coastal identity. Local fishermen built and decorated it themselves, using shells, coral, fishing nets and other maritime materials. The result is a small, personal record of the fishing traditions that shaped life along this coast.

Masafi Market is one of the easiest places to see a more everyday side of the emirate. Stalls sell fruit, vegetables, carpets, pottery, crafts and souvenirs, making it useful for browsing local goods without turning the experience into a formal heritage visit.

Fujairah Cultural Centre is part of the UAE Ministry of Culture’s network of cultural venues. It hosts performances, community activities and cultural programmes, giving visitors a look at Fujairah’s creative life beyond its museums and historic sites.

City Centre Fujairah is a practical indoor break from beaches and mountain drives, with more than 100 shops in the source material alongside restaurants and a cinema. It suits families especially well when the midday heat makes a few air conditioned hours appealing.

Held around Mawlid, with dates changing each year, Al Bader Festival celebrates Islamic art, heritage and the life and values of the Prophet Muhammad. Calligraphy, exhibitions, workshops and traditional Maalad performances give the event a strong cultural and spiritual character.

Celebrated on 18 April each year, World Heritage Day gives Fujairah’s history and traditions a more visible place in the calendar. Heritage performances, music, local food and cultural activities bring historic settings to life and offer visitors an engaging introduction to Emirati traditions.

Usually held in December, Fujairah International Arabian Horse Championship brings together leading breeders, owners and purebred Arabian horses for several days of competition. The event reflects the UAE’s deep equestrian traditions and remains one of Fujairah’s standout heritage sporting occasions.
