Begin early to descend into the beautiful valley facing the retreat where you walk through beautiful rice terraces. Enjoy a nice breakfast and then depart for Pu Luong for a 3.5-hour drive to Ninh Binh Province. There you visit Vietnam's ancient capital of Hoa Lu, the country's first centralised feudal state where you may find the spectacular temples of Dinh and Le dynasties, surrounded by rice paddies.

Continue your trip to Tam Coc, known as “Halong Bay on Land”, where you will have a skilled rower take you on a serene 2-hour slow journey over the river and canals. Sight gorgeous karst formations as you enter three of the several natural caves formed under the hills. Next, visit the Thai Vi temple on your way back to the hotel and check in. Today, you will depart from Hanoi for a 2.5-hour drive to Tuan Chau harbour via the new highway. Get a warm welcome aboard and set sail through the bay while your lunch is served. Pass through the magical bay where thousands of sculpted limestone islands rise from the waves like dragon's teeth.
