The Cocoon Suite is a good choice for couples or small families who want the lodge’s original tented design with a private outdoor viewing deck. The 55 sqm interior has a king bed, high vaulted ceiling and jungle views through the double-glazed facade. A handmade copper bathtub, twin vanities and enclosed shower form part of the bathroom layout.
The Cocoon Pool Suite suits couples and small families who want their own pool as part of the stay. It keeps the lodge’s canvas-clad Cocoon design, with a king bed, jungle views through the double-glazed facade and a bathroom with a handmade copper bathtub, twin vanities and enclosed shower.
The Family Cocoon Pool Suite is designed for families who want separate sleeping space while staying close together. It combines the main Cocoon with an adjoining Urchin, positioned around five metres away and connected by a raised wooden footbridge. The Cocoon has a king bed and can also accommodate up to two children, while the Urchin sleeps two children or young adults.
The Pavilion is the lodge’s bamboo-clad main restaurant, overlooking the Indian Ocean and surrounding wilderness. Breakfast includes traditional Sri Lankan and international favourites, while lunch is served à la carte with local dishes, comfort food and lighter choices. Dinner makes use of fresh local produce, with Sri Lankan flavours forming an important part of the menu.
The Dune Lounge is an open-air space set among the coastal dunes. Low seating, safari-style chairs and timber details keep the setting informal, while guests have panoramic views towards the ocean.
Wilderness Dining takes private meals away from the main restaurant and into the lodge’s coastal surroundings. Guests can dine among the beach and sand dunes, with experiences including outdoor picnics and candlelit dinners for two.
Sundowners take place after the evening game drive in the lodge’s beach garden overlooking the ocean. Cocktails and canapés are served outdoors, giving guests time to sit by the coast after returning from Yala.
Exclusive Game Drive & Jungle Afternoon Tea combines a private game drive with afternoon tea in the wilderness. The team selects a suitable outdoor location where guests can leave the vehicle and have high tea featuring items prepared by the pastry kitchen.
Ten Tuskers Bar sits beside the swimming pool with views towards the Indian Ocean. Its drinks menu focuses on handcrafted cocktails using Sri Lankan ingredients, including tamarind, king coconut, local citrus, chillies, Indian gooseberries and Ceylon arrack.
Game Drives take guests into Yala National Park with Wild Coast’s rangers, who look beyond individual sightings to explain tracks, animal behaviour and the wider ecosystem. Leopards, sloth bears and elephants are among Yala’s key species, with sightings depending on wildlife movement and conditions on the day.
This private birding experience explores Bundala National Park’s wetlands, lagoons, salterns and dunes. Resident birds are joined by winter migrants, with opportunities to see species including flamingos, waders and raptors depending on season and conditions.
Rural Bike Exploration is a guided ride from the lodge through the surrounding countryside. The route passes rural landscapes and includes stops at a nearby lake and a beach close to Yala National Park’s buffer zone.
The Udawalawe Elephant Adventure visits the Elephant Transit Home, where orphaned elephant calves are cared for with limited human contact before suitable animals are returned to the wild. The focus is on rehabilitation and gives guests an insight into the work involved in caring for young elephants.
Explore Kataragama Temple takes guests to a religious complex respected by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Sri Lanka’s Vedda community. The site includes shrines connected with the Buddhist guardian deity Kataragama deviyo and the Hindu deity Kathirkamam.
The Guided Nature Walk explores the forest in and around the lodge with an expert ranger. Guests learn to identify animal tracks and other signs of recent wildlife activity while moving through Yala National Park’s protected buffer zone.
Explore Sithulpawwa visits an ancient Buddhist monastery believed to date from the 2nd century BC. The site sits among rocky outcrops, caves and shelters within Yala National Park, providing a cultural experience alongside the lodge’s wildlife-focused activities.

Junior Ranger introduces children to Yala’s wildlife through structured programmes designed for stays of two, three or five nights. Activities include animal identification, footprint tracking and learning about animal group behaviour.
The Fossil Room is a nature-led learning and play space for children, with activities built around Yala’s biodiversity and natural environment. Programmes are divided into three age groups: 3–5, 6–9 and 10–14 years.
Junior Chef gives children a practical introduction to food with a Sri Lankan twist. Young guests can make coconut and treacle pancakes, coconut and cinnamon cookies and fresh fruit juice, then try what they have prepared.
Discover Sri Lankan Cuisine is a hands-on cookery experience rather than a demonstration. Guests mix spices, season ingredients and prepare lunch under the guidance of one of the lodge’s chefs.
The Rural Pottery Experience visits the Mankada Pottery Centre near Udawalawe National Park. Guests can watch pottery being made and take part in an informal pottery-making class, while learning about an initiative created to support local craftswomen and their communities.

The Quarry is Wild Coast’s dedicated fitness space, designed with the character of a 1920s boxing gym. The space focuses on strength, movement and fitness while keeping its design connected to the surrounding Yala landscape.
Wild Coast Tented Lodge has a large free-form infinity pool extending out from the dome-shaped bar. The pool is surrounded by jungle and includes shaded alcoves with Jacuzzi jets, with drinks available from the adjacent bar.
Five large clay-lined watering holes sit among the Cocoons and are positioned to form the shape of a leopard paw print. Different depths and access points create habitats for freshwater species and allow wildlife to reach the water.
The lodge opens onto a wide, secluded beach where Yala’s landscape meets the Indian Ocean. Guests can spend time by the coast between activities, while the beach and dunes also provide the setting for experiences such as sundowners and private dining.
Wild Coast Tented Lodge can host weddings for between two and 60 guests, using its jungle and Indian Ocean setting for the occasion. Wedding packages are bespoke and supported by wedding planners and celebrants.

Wild Coast Tented Lodge is in Palatupana, beside Yala National Park on Sri Lanka’s south-eastern coast. Bandaranaike International Airport is 303 km away, with the road journey taking approximately 5 to 6 hours. A domestic flight option is also available for travellers who prefer an alternative to the full drive.
