As your journey continues, you'll discover the volcanic beauty of the Arenal region before taking the wheel for a self-drive adventure from La Fortuna to Potrero and onwards to San José. With time to relax on the Pacific coast, spot incredible wildlife and soak up the country's natural beauty, this holiday offers the perfect mix of adventure, freedom and unforgettable experiences.
The holiday is going to give you a chance to enjoy shared rafting to Pacuare Lodge, horseback riding in Hacienda Pozo Azul, a shared tour to Místico Hanging Bridges, and a canyon canopy Tour & Rio Negro Tubing. It will also include a 9-day car hire from Pacuare to San José, for which you will have to pay a security deposit of (US$ 1000) by credit card only. You can then pick up from Pacuare on Day 3 & Drop-off at San José on Day 11. It will be a standard car (4X4, 4 doors, 5 passengers, 5 luggage, Gasoline, Automatic) or anything similar.
Note: Fuel expenses, Optional daily insurance, and Other services (second driver, GPS, booster, etc.) are not included

What's Included
Itinerary
When you arrive in San José, our representative will already be there to meet and greet you on your arrival. The person will also assist you with your hotel transfer. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure to spend.

You will leave San José early in the morning and travel east through the spectacular Braulio Carrillo National Park towards Costa Rica's Caribbean region. Along the way, you will stop for a traditional Costa Rican breakfast before changing into your rafting gear. At the Pacuare River, expert guides will provide safety instructions, paddling tips, and waterproof bags for your belongings.
You will then begin rafting through exciting Class III rapids surrounded by untouched rainforest. During the journey, you will enjoy a freshly prepared riverside picnic and take a short walk to a beautiful waterfall with a natural pool. Your day ends at Tropical Rivers Lodge, where you can relax or explore nature.

After a delicious breakfast and freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee, you will prepare for another exciting day on the Pacuare River. Your guides will get the rafts ready before you continue downstream, passing dramatic waterfalls, peaceful stretches of water, and thrilling rapids. Along the route, you will stop by the river for a light snack and have time to admire the surrounding rainforest scenery.
The adventure continues with a series of exhilarating rapids, including Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron and Dos Montanas. Your rafting journey concludes near Siquirres, where your transfer will be waiting. Afterwards, you will enjoy a satisfying hot lunch at a local restaurant before travelling onwards to your next destination.

You will spend the day exploring the countryside on horseback with experienced local hosts whose family has a long tradition of breeding and caring for horses. Matched with a well-trained horse suited to your riding ability, you will enjoy a comfortable and rewarding experience through the beautiful landscapes of the hacienda.
The route follows scenic trails and quiet country tracks, taking you across open pastures, through tropical forest and alongside peaceful rivers. Lasting around six hours, the ride is tailored to your level of experience, allowing both beginners and confident riders to appreciate Costa Rica's natural beauty while enjoying a safe, relaxed and memorable adventure in the great outdoors.
Travel to La Fortuna and spend the remainder of the day at your own pace. Unwind in the naturally heated thermal pools at your hotel and enjoy the peaceful surroundings before your next adventure.

Your experience begins with a transfer from your hotel in La Fortuna to a beautiful rainforest reserve. Accompanied by an experienced naturalist guide, you will explore around three kilometres of well-maintained forest trails while learning about the region's unique ecosystem. As you walk beneath the lush canopy, you will discover an incredible variety of native plants, towering trees and fascinating wildlife that thrive in this tropical environment.

An exciting day begins at the Hacienda Adventure Centre with a short walk to the first platform overlooking the impressive Río Blanco canyon. The two-hour canyon experience includes rappelling, rock climbing, ziplining, a Tarzan swing, via ferrata routes and suspension bridges surrounded by spectacular scenery.
The adventure continues with river tubing along five kilometres of the clear Black River, navigating fun Class II and III rapids and peaceful pools that showcase the tropical landscape. A scenic horseback ride through forest trails leads to the river, adding another memorable element to the day.
Throughout the excursion, professional guides provide expert support and ensure safety at every stage. Changing rooms and other facilities are available before returning comfortably to the hotel after an unforgettable outdoor experience.

Travel back to San José at your own pace, enjoying the final scenic drive of your holiday. Upon arrival, return your rental vehicle at the designated location before continuing with your onward travel arrangements or departure.
