What's Included
Itinerary
After touching down at the airport, collect your full-size hire car and take a short drive to check into your resort. You will spend the first 3 nights in Loudoun County, which is at the heart of Virginia’s “DC Wine Country.” While the resort is a self-contained destination, you can take some time to explore rolling hills dotted with more than 50 wineries and craft breweries. With your car hire, you can hop between the equestrian charm of Middleburg and the boutique shops of Historic Leesburg. Whether you are hiking the Blue Ridge trails or enjoying farm-to-table dining, the pace is yours to set in Loudoun County. On Day 4, you will head south toward the academic elegance of Charlottesville.
Accommodation
Lansdowne Resort Leesburg, Loudoun County
Charlottesville is a city where colonial history meets a buzzing, modern energy. After checking into your hotel, you will spend the next 4 nights in this smart city and premier college town. You can wander through the UNESCO-listed sites such as Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home) and the Academical Village located at the University of Virginia. Make sure to visit the Rotunda, the most famous building at the University of Virginia. You can explore the Historic Downtown Mall, which is one of the longest pedestrian streets in America with more than 120 unique shops. If you are a nature lover, don’t miss out on visiting the nearby Shenandoah National Park. To enjoy a slower pace of life, you can follow the Monticello Wine Trail to discover over 40 award-winning vineyards. For the best local experience, try apple cider doughnuts at Carter Mountain Orchard and enjoy panoramic valley views. On Day 8, you will continue your tour to Richmond.
Accommodation
Kimpton The Forum Hotel, Charlottesville
For your final three nights of the trip, you will arrive in Richmond, Virginia’s storied capital. It is a city that wears a 400-year history on its sleeve. While you can spend a relaxing time in your luxury hotel, you can also walk through Carytown’s “Mile of Style” to enjoy eclectic shopping, or visit the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to explore the world-class art collections and a stunning sculpture garden. History comes alive at the State Capitol and St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry’s "Liberty or Death" speech echoed. For adventure lovers, the James River offers rare urban whitewater rafting. Make sure to spend your final evening in Richmond in the Scott’s Addition brewing district, raising a toast to an incredible trip before getting ready to drive back to the airport the next morning for your flight home to London.
