The 130 sqm Junior Suite is one of the most flexible choices for families. It comes with either two Queen beds or one Super King bed and has direct access to the Cove Pool. A large verandah provides separate areas for outdoor dining and relaxing.
The Master Suite gives couples and small families 150 sqm of space along with direct access to the Cove Pool. It has a Super King bed, a large walk-in wardrobe and a furnished verandah for dining or spending time outside.
The Two Bedroom Family Suite is designed for larger families and groups, with 280 sqm of space split across two interconnected bedrooms. One bedroom has a Super King bed, while the other has twin Queen beds, giving families more flexibility than a single-room layout.
At 130 sqm, the Luxury Villa is the smallest villa category and suits couples or small families who prefer a garden setting. It has a Super King bed and a large verandah with separate areas for outdoor dining and relaxing.
The 180 sqm Premier Villa adds more space and direct access to the Cove Pool, making it a useful choice for travellers who want a villa setting without being far from the resort’s family pool. It also has access to a 15m infinity pool shared with one or two other villas.
The Prestige Villa is a good choice when having a separate living room matters as much as the bedroom. Its 180 sqm layout includes a Super King bed and a separate lounge with a bar counter, giving couples and families a proper shared space away from the sleeping area.
With 200 sqm of space, the Grand Villa gives couples and families more room than the smaller villa categories. It has a Super King bed, a large walk-in wardrobe and a broad verandah with dedicated areas for outdoor dining and relaxing.
The Pool Pavilion is designed for two adults and puts private pool space at the centre of the stay. Its main feature is a private 15m infinity swimming pool, giving couples their own place to swim and relax beside the accommodation.
At 310 sqm, Cape Residence is the largest accommodation category at Cape Weligama and is designed for families or groups who want more living and sleeping space. It combines a Prestige Villa on the ground floor with a Pool Pavilion above, connected by an internal staircase. The layout includes two Super King beds, a separate living room with a bar counter and two bathrooms.
The Atlas is Cape Weligama’s main restaurant, overlooking the bay and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its menus combine Sri Lankan and international dishes, including seafood.
Tableau is Cape Weligama’s Chef’s Table, where the host chef presents a crafted evening menu using heirloom ingredients and produce from Sri Lanka. Unlike the resort’s regular restaurants, this is a shared dining experience built around a set session rather than an open dining schedule.
Floating Breakfast allows guests to enjoy breakfast in the privacy of their own pool, with a selection of dishes served on a floating tray.
Cliff Edge Dining takes place at Lookout Blue near The Society, on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. Guests are served a specially prepared degustation menu in a more private setting than the resort’s main restaurants.
In-Villa Dining allows guests to have meals served at their accommodation rather than visiting one of the resort’s restaurants. Villas and suites have outdoor dining areas on their verandahs, and the service covers meals from breakfast through dinner.
Heritage Breakfast at Kumbuk introduces guests to a traditional Sri Lankan-style morning meal in an al fresco village setting. The breakfast includes a mix of savoury, spicy and sweet flavours, accompanied by yaara tea.
Cove Pool Dining is a destination dining experience set around the Cove Pool. Guests have a curated meal surrounded by water as the sun sets across the bay, offering a quieter alternative to dining in one of the main restaurants.
The Society is Cape Weligama’s bar, serving Ceylon Afternoon Cream Tea, pre-dinner bites and cocktails made with ingredients such as arrack, Ceylon tea and spices.
The Cove is the resort’s beach club, set beside Cove Beach with direct access to the swimming and surfing bay. The menu includes beachside plates and wood-fired bites, while the drinks selection covers classic and tropical-style cocktails.
Personalised Wellness at Cape Weligama brings together relaxation, movement and the resort’s coastal setting. Guests can shape their wellness time around their own preferences, combining spa treatments, yoga and other wellbeing experiences during their stay.
Yoga sessions combine asanas, pranayama breathing techniques and meditation. Complimentary yoga is currently held on Saturday mornings at 08:00 in the Moon Room, with sessions arranged for between one and six guests. Guests are advised to confirm with their curator by the previous afternoon.
Sanctuary Spa focuses on treatments using ingredients linked to Sri Lanka, including Ceylon tea and cinnamon. Treatments range from massages and facials to manicures, herbal compresses, tea-leaf exfoliation and self-heating lava-shell massage. Treatments can also be arranged in the privacy of your residence.
The Fitness Centre is located beneath the Moon Pool and is equipped with Cybex machines. Equipment includes Arc Total Body Cross Trainers, treadmills, upright bikes, recumbent bikes and a Multi Gym.
The Moon Pool and Cove Pool offer two different pool settings. The cliff-edge Moon Pool has 270-degree coastal views and is reserved for guests aged 12 and above. The Cove Pool, close to the suites, includes a 20m lap pool and is designed for families with children under 12. Private and semi-private pools are also spread among the villas and suites.
Forest School is Cape Weligama’s nature-based kids’ club, with separate programmes for ages 2–5, 6–8, 9–12 and 13–15. Activities change through the week and cover everything from pebble art, storytelling and nature walks to birdwatching, raft building, navigation and forest obstacle courses. Morning and evening sessions run daily, while 90-minute pottery, carpentry and Forest Robotics workshops are available as add-ons.
Cape Forest Camp is a five-day summer programme for children who want a more involved outdoor experience. Activities include pottery, hut and tent building, natural paint-making, nature education, bug hotels, marine-life discovery and basic cooking. Children take part for around six to eight hours per day, depending on their interest level, and a minimum six-night resort stay is required for the five-day programme.
Cove Beach gives guests direct access to the calm bay below the resort, with surfing, beach tennis and pétanque available beside the water. The Cove beach club is close to the sand for food and drinks during the day. The resort also lists West Beach, reached by a cliff staircase, and East Beach, around a five-minute walk away with a swimming reef.
Guests can snorkel in the bay beneath Cape Weligama and explore neighbouring coves by kayak. Further away, nearby Koggala Lake can be explored by boat or kayak, passing its lagoon and cinnamon-growing surroundings. These options make it easy to spend time on the water without committing to a longer full-day excursion.
Tropicsurf runs Cape Weligama’s surf programme for first-timers through to advanced surfers. Choices include the Cape Weligama Surf Session, South Coast Surfari and a Kids’ Pool Lesson held in the calm Cove Pool. All programmes include expert coaching, sunscreen, rashguards, towels and drinking water, and the resort requests bookings at least 48 hours in advance.
This half-day experience starts with a 13:30 departure from Cape Weligama and a visit to Kayaam Wellness for afternoon cream tea. Guests then head to Rekawa Lagoon for guided sunset kayaking through the lagoon and mangroves. One- and three-seater kayaks are available, and a professional instructor provides the safety briefing and guidance. The experience operates year-round, subject to weather and lagoon conditions.
Private Whale Watching takes guests along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline on a catamaran-style yacht with a trained crew and Cape Weligama naturalist. There are opportunities to see blue and sperm whales, while dolphins, turtles and other marine life may also be seen depending on conditions. Breakfast and lunch are cooked on board, and the yacht can later anchor in Weligama Bay for swimming or stand-up paddleboarding.
Shared Whale Watching operates during the calmer south-coast period from December to April. A naturalist joins the Sail Lanka catamaran to explain whale migration and behaviour while the boat heads out in search of blue and sperm whales. Guests may also see dolphins, turtles, fish and birdlife depending on conditions.
This private yacht cruise leaves from Mirissa Harbour and follows the southern coast around sunset. Canapés prepared by the resort kitchen are paired with four wines during the cruise. Mirissa Harbour is around a 20-minute drive from Cape Weligama, and the experience is subject to weather conditions.
This guided walk stays within Cape Weligama’s coastal gardens and is led by the resident naturalist. Binoculars and a bird checklist are supplied while guests learn to identify native and migratory species. There are opportunities to see kingfishers, coucals, peacocks and other birds depending on weather and natural conditions. Confirmation is required one day in advance.
Cycling the south follows quiet roads inland from Weligama with a guide. The route passes rice paddies, rubber and cinnamon estates, small plantations, home gardens, places of worship and rural homes, giving guests a look at daily life away from the coast. The resort describes the experience as suitable for all ages, subject to individual physical ability.
This private excursion visits Udawalawe National Park, where guests have opportunities to observe Asian elephants alongside birds, plants and other wildlife. The trip also includes the Elephant Transit Home, which rehabilitates orphaned elephant calves before releasing them into the wild. The drive from Cape Weligama takes around two and a half hours each way.
This experience combines a visit to the animal rescue centre at Hiyare with a short guided walk through the surrounding lowland rainforest. A professional ranger explains the centre’s work with injured and displaced animals before leading guests into the forest to learn about its ecosystem. The experience is listed as suitable for children aged 6–11.
This experience visits a low-country tea plantation around 20 minutes from Cape Weligama. The guided tour includes a walk through the antique tea factory followed by afternoon tea and cake, providing an easy way to learn about southern Sri Lanka’s tea-growing tradition without travelling into the central highlands.
Tea of Dynasties visits Handunugoda Tea Estate, known for its Virgin White Tea. Guests tour the working plantation and learn how the tea is produced, with a stop for oolong tea and homemade chocolate cake before visiting the tea museum and shop.
The Cinnamon Plantation Experience takes guests to a working plantation in the Mirissa area to learn how genuine Ceylon cinnamon is grown and prepared. The two-hour visit covers the Cinnamon Museum, a guided plantation trail, demonstrations by cinnamon peelers and a tasting at the Cinnamon Peelers Cottage. It is available Monday to Saturday, excluding Poya days.
Batik Journey is a hands-on workshop in Koggala led by a Master Artisan with more than 40 years of experience. Guests learn about the history and process of Sri Lankan batik before creating their own piece, which they can take home. The workshop lasts around three hours, runs year-round and requires booking at least 24 hours ahead.
This interactive cooking experience takes place inside historic Galle Fort. Guests meet Mama at an Art Deco-style house before visiting a local market to learn how fresh produce is selected, then take part in preparing Sri Lankan dishes. The class works particularly well for travellers who want to learn by cooking rather than simply watching a demonstration.
This chef-hosted experience starts at Weligama’s vegetable and seafood market, where guests help select ingredients while learning about local produce and seafood. After a king coconut stop, the experience returns to Cape Weligama for an interactive cooking session and lunch at Tableau. Round-trip transport is included, with the Riviera camper van used when available.
Discover Sri Lankan Cuisine is a chef-hosted introduction to Sri Lankan cooking at Lookout Blue. Guests learn about local ingredients, cooking methods and recipes and can take part at the stove as much as they wish. There are two daily sittings at 11:00 and 13:00, followed by a Sri Lankan lunch. Vegetarian or vegan menus can be prepared on special request.
Cocktail Artistry takes place at The Society with a Cape mixologist, who demonstrates how to prepare two cocktails. Guests can personalise their drinks, with local ingredients such as tamarind, king coconut water, calamansi and Indian gooseberry used as inspiration. The experience is available year-round except on national holidays and Poya days.
Junior Chef gives younger guests a hands-on introduction to simple food preparation with a Sri Lankan touch. Children can make coconut and treacle pancakes, coconut and cinnamon cookies and fresh fruit juice, then enjoy what they have prepared. The minimum age is four.
This cultural experience introduces guests to traditional Sri Lankan wooden mask-making. The host explains how masks are shaped with chisels before they are sanded and painted. Mask painting is suitable for children aged 6–12, while the resort advises that younger children should not take part in carving because sharp tools are used.
Afterdark tales of galle explores the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort as the day moves into evening. The hosted experience looks at more than 400 years of history and the Portuguese, Dutch and British influences that shaped the fort. It is a useful choice for guests who want historical context rather than visiting the streets independently.
Matara The Forgotten Fortress is a guided walking experience through Matara’s historic fortifications. Guests meet at the entrance to Matara Elephant Fort before exploring the area on foot and learning about its Portuguese, Dutch and British history, its role in the cinnamon and elephant trades and everyday life within the old fort.
Island of Paradise gives guests the option of seeing Sri Lanka from the air. Flights can remain airborne for sightseeing or land for a guided cultural visit or time at another Resplendent Ceylon resort. Routes and operation depend on weather, visibility and aviation requirements, so plans are confirmed in advance.
The evolution of Arrack introduces guests to Sri Lanka’s local spirit through a guided tasting. A mixologist explains the origins, distilling process and different styles of arrack before guests sample a flight accompanied by selected bar bites. It is available year-round except on national holidays and Poya days.
Cape Weligama has three elevated lookout points named after whale species: Lookout Blue, Minke and Fin. Each provides panoramic views across the Indian Ocean and gives guests a simple place to stop during a walk around the resort.
Cape Weligama’s gardens run between the villas, suites and main resort spaces, with lanes, dry-stone walls, lawns, mature trees and smaller garden paths. They give guests a quieter part of the resort to explore on foot between time at the beach, pools and other facilities.
The Resplendent Boutique focuses on Sri Lankan-made and locally designed products, including clothing, jewellery, teas, spices, books and accessories. Cape Weligama offers bespoke weddings with support from wedding planners and celebrants. Weddings for between two and 60 guests can be accommodated, while a full resort buyout is recommended for parties of more than 30. Ceremony arrangements, dining and other elements can be planned around the couple’s requirements.
