Borneo Discovery with Beach Stay

Arrive at Sandakan Airport where you get a meet and greet and head to the Sepilok Area. Stop for lunch before you drop off at the resort. After check-in at your resort, utilise your leisure time to explore the lush tropical forest surrounding the resort. Around 6 pm, head to the flying squirrel platform to see these graceful animals glide through the treetops. Return to have dinner at the resort.

The morning is at leisure. Have lunch and visit the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary located in the centre of the mangrove forest near Samawang Village. Here you will find the perfect spot to observe these unique primates not found anywhere else in the world — catch them leaping from one tree to another in a fast and stylish way.

Later, head over to the Rainforest Discovery Centre which has the orchid garden, see a variety of flora, and go for a Canopy Walkway adventure, an amazing opportunity to experience the diverse wildlife residing in the untouched rainforest.

Return to the resort.

Have your breakfast and then drive for 30 minutes to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to observe these beautiful species, the orangutan. At 10 am, we are going to feed the orangutans and go for a walk in Borneo’s tropical lowland dipterocarp forest.

Continue to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (which aims to release rescued sun bears into the enclosed forest). Next, transfer to Sandakan Jetty for a scheduled boat ride which departs at noon, a 60-minute boat cruise, leaving at midday through the mangroves in the Kinabatangan River Sanctuary, to reach Abai Jungle Lodge.

In the afternoon, enjoy another boat cruise spotting more wildlife, and after sunset, watch the fireflies light up like a Christmas tree. In the evening, search for birds, snakes, insects, and other wildlife with our guide on a night jungle trek.

The early bird catches the worm and waking early is rewarded with the sights and sounds of nature springing to life at dawn. We then embark on an early-morning river cruise to Pitas Lake to spot the plethora of wildlife that calls the picturesque body of water home. We then head to Abai Jungle Platform for breakfast, surrounded by nature. We then hit the water again for a scenic boat cruise to Sukau Village at 10 am. Upon arrival, we then lunch and check-in at the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge at about noon, before setting off on a cruise at 4.30 pm along Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan in search of wild orangutans, a rare proboscis monkey and pygmy elephants. At 7.30 pm, return to the lodge to have your dinner.

Have your breakfast, complete check-out formalities at the resort and head for a drive journey to Sabah Tea Garden. At the plantation and factory, you enjoy a guided tour and gain fascinating insights into harvesting, cultivating, processing, packaging, and brewing organic pesticide-free tea.

Treat yourself to delicious tea-infused desserts and local cuisines at an amazing on-site restaurant. Later, retreat to a charming cottage nestled within the 2,408-hectare tea estate, situated 700 meters above sea level in the rainforest foothills of Mount Kinabalu. Revel in the serene ambience as you witness the beginning of the sunset, with the majestic mountain providing a stunning backdrop.

Wake to the peaceful ambience of a misty morning unveiling the spectacular views of the sun-lit Mount Kinabalu. Take a leisurely walk through the tea estate or simply just unwind on your private balcony. Next, have a sumptuous breakfast, bid farewell to the resort and proceed for an enjoyable hour-long journey to the historic Kundasang War Memorial.

Dig into the poignant stories of bravery from the past, especially of the Death March. Dedicated to the British and Australian soldiers who perished during the Sandakan POW camp.

Continue your expedition to Malaysia’s inaugural UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kinabalu National Park. This 754-square-kilometre sanctuary exemplifies the beautiful centrepiece, Mount Kinabalu. Enjoy a guided walk through the Botanical Garden where you can find carnivorous Pitches Plants to unique orchid species. Immerse yourself into the park’s natural wonders, head back to Kota Kinabalu and check in to your accommodation.

Take in the soul of Sabah with a visit to the Mari Mari Cultural Village, home to varied ethnic minorities. Transfer 25 minutes to the village as you travel on roads surrounded by greenery. Once you arrive, visit different homes built by tribal descendants using different architectural styles.

We acquaint ourselves with each tribe as they share with us their dwellings to give a glimpse of their simple and traditional lives. We stop at demonstration huts where you can observe age-old activities such as blow piping, tattooing, and igniting a fire with bamboo figs. Overall, enjoy the uniqueness of Sabah life.

Get up close to nature at Pulau Gaya, the largest of the five islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park and has some of the best lowland forests. Today, you transfer from the hotel to the jetty — board a 15-minute ferry cruise to Pula Gaya upon arrival. Trek for 90 minutes through coastal vegetation, lowland dipterocarp forest, and mangrove swamp. On the way, the guide gives insight into the flora and fauna and once you've trekked through the primary forest, board a boat to transfer to nearby Sapi Island, the smallest among the five islands known for snorkelling and dynamic marine life. Spend the day at leisure be it through snorkelling, swimming, relaxing on the beach, or short and simple trails if you want to have some adventure.

Relish a delicious barbecue lunch served on the beach at around 3 p.m., board a boat from the island jetty to Sabah and get your transfer back to the hotel.
