Today, it remains Peru’s largest and most influential city, home to nearly 9 million residents, around 30% of the country’s population. As you explore the city, you will discover a fascinating blend of history and modernity. The historic centre, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features elegant colonial architecture, grand churches, and impressive plazas. Begin in the modern districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, where attractive green spaces, stylish architecture, and bustling commercial areas showcase the city’s contemporary side. Along the way, you will visit well-known parks, including El Olivar and the scenic Love Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Continue to Lima’s historic heart, where elegant colonial buildings surround important landmarks such as Plaza San Martín and the Plaza de Armas. Here, you can admire the Cathedral, Government Palace, and City Hall before exploring the fascinating San Francisco Monastery, famous for its underground catacombs and labyrinth-like passageways. Your tour concludes at the Lima Art Museum (MALI), home to an outstanding collection that traces Peru’s artistic heritage from pre-Columbian times to the present day.

*Please note that the museum is closed on Mondays.

You may also choose from several optional excursions. Explore Miraflores on foot while learning about local culture and daily life, visit the colourful Waterpark to experience its illuminated fountains and evening music show (Tuesday to Sunday only), or discover Barranco, Lima’s artistic district, known for its historic mansions, charming atmosphere, ocean views, galleries, and the iconic Bridge of Sighs.

Leaving Lima behind, you will travel by air to Cusco, the historic heart of the former Inca Empire and one of Peru’s most captivating cultural treasures. Known as South America’s archaeological capital, Cusco combines centuries of indigenous heritage with elegant colonial architecture, creating a unique atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the country. As you wander its ancient streets, you will encounter living traditions that continue to thrive among the city’s Quechua-speaking communities.

After landing, your first visit will be to Sacsayhuamán, a remarkable Inca ceremonial site perched above the city. The enormous stone structures, fitted together with extraordinary accuracy, remain one of the greatest engineering achievements of the ancient world. From here, you can also take in breathtaking views across Cusco.

Your journey then takes you to the rural community of Cuyo Chico near Pisaq, where a local family will introduce you to the traditional art of clay bead making. This centuries-old craft is becoming increasingly rare, making this cultural encounter especially meaningful. A traditional lunch follows, allowing you to savour authentic local cuisine.

Later, continue to the Sacred Valley, a region once central to Inca life. Surrounded by fertile landscapes, ancient terraces, and fascinating archaeological sites, it remains one of Peru’s most scenic and historically significant destinations.

Following breakfast, you will set out on a fascinating full-day exploration of the Sacred Valley, one of the most important regions of the former Inca Empire. Your first destination is Maras, home to an extraordinary network of nearly 3,000 salt pools spread across the mountainside. For centuries, local families have harvested salt here using mineral-rich spring water that naturally emerges from the earth. The striking landscape creates one of the valley’s most memorable sights. Please note that access to the salt terraces is restricted, and visits may be less suitable during the rainy season from November to April.

You will then continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved Inca settlements in Peru. Dominating the town is a remarkable fortress built on steep terraces that climb the hillside. As you explore the site, you will discover impressive stonework, ancient pathways, and residential areas that reveal how the Incas once lived. You will also have the chance to visit the home of a local family, providing valuable insight into daily life and traditions that continue in the region today.

Your final stop is Tambococha, a welcoming Andean community surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and fertile farmland. Here, you will be greeted with traditional music, sample coca tea and fresh corn with cheese, and experience authentic local hospitality before enjoying lunch at a traditional restaurant. Please note that the sequence of visits may vary.

On this day, you will experience one of Peru’s most iconic attractions as you journey to the legendary citadel of Machu Picchu. Your adventure begins with a transfer to Ollantaytambo railway station, where you will board a scenic train travelling through the lush landscapes of the Urubamba Valley. Upon reaching Aguas Calientes, you will continue by shuttle bus up the winding mountain roads to the entrance of this extraordinary archaeological site.

Often referred to as the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest architectural achievements. Built with remarkable precision, its stone structures were assembled without mortar, with each block fitting perfectly into place. Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, the site continues to inspire visitors and historians alike, with numerous theories surrounding its original purpose.

You will enjoy a guided tour of approximately two hours, allowing you to explore the most important areas of the citadel while learning about its fascinating history and cultural significance. Please note that entry is organised through designated circuits with fixed time slots, and route assignments are subject to availability.

After your visit, return by bus to Aguas Calientes and continue by train to Ollantaytambo before transferring to Cusco. Once the capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco remains a vibrant cultural centre where ancient traditions, colonial architecture, and rich artistic heritage continue to thrive.
