Hong Kong, officially known as Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is set of islands that are under the purview of Mainland China, but is being administered separately, as it was under the rule of the British until 1997. Although a relatively small island state, Hong Kong is one of the world’s leading centres of finance and business owing to it being one of the most important ports in the world. The name Hong Kong derives from the Cantonese for “Fragrant Harbour”, as it was known in ancient times for its trade of incense. Among Hong Kong’s main draws are its cityscape, the amazing bargains to be had on shopping sprees, and sightseeing tours, where you can get mesmerised by the amazing views of the skyscrapers, the harbour and the green hills that the country has to offer.
