After breakfast at your hotel, you transfer to the Nomad Ethno Centre, where your immersive journey into Scythian-Saka heritage begins. Here, you learn about the ancient “kurgans,” the sacred burial mounds that once made the Almaty region the spiritual core of the entire Scythian world. Leaders from Siberia, Altai, the Black Sea region, and across the Great Steppe travelled here to bury their nobles, believing the mounds connected the heavens and the underworld.
You then explore the warcraft of the nomads, discovering their powerful armour, weapons, and legendary horse-warrior tactics. Demonstrations of mounted attacks and traditional horse archery bring this history vividly to life. Next, you step inside traditional nomadic dwellings and gain insight into the structure, symbolism, and artistry of the yurt.
Your experience continues with a fascinating introduction to Berkutchi, Kazakh eagle hunting, where you witness the deep bond between hunter and bird. You also join a Nomad archery master class to practice authentic shooting techniques, and you may enjoy a horseback ride if you wish. A national lunch is served inside the yurts before returning to Almaty for a relaxing walk along Arbat and Panfilov pedestrian streets.
Post breakfast, check out and transfer to Almaty Domestic Airport for your flight to Turkestan. Upon arrival, you head to your hotel before visiting a craftsman’s studio, where you discover stunning woodworks carved from single pieces of aged timber, each with its own meaning. You then join a Kazakh family, helping prepare traditional tandyr-nan bread before enjoying dinner with them.
Later, you explore the Karavansaray complex, wandering its bazaar, shops, and restaurants, and enjoying the magical floating theatre show inspired by the Kyz-Jibek and Tolegen epic. You return to your hotel afterwards, with an optional dinner available.
