Through our partnership with Treeapp, we plant a tree in Tanzania’s Western Usambara Mountains for every Luxtripper booking, at no extra cost to you. We are part of Moresand, a UK travel company. Since the partnership began in January 2026, more than 2,400 trees have gone into the ground. Here’s how it works, where they are growing and how we keep track of them.

- 16,088 m² of land reforested, about 1.6 hectares or just over two football pitches
- 262.9 tonnes of CO₂, Treeapp’s estimate of what the trees will absorb over their lifetime

How the Luxtripper and Treeapp Partnership Works
Treeapp is the organisation behind the planting, working with partners across different parts of the world to restore land, support communities and make sure the trees being planted suit the places where they will grow.
When a booking is made with Luxtripper, we fund the planting of a tree through Treeapp. There is no donation for you to make and no extra cost added to your holiday. It is simply built into what we do.
This isn’t a carbon offset. Planting a tree doesn’t cancel out the emissions from your flight, and we don’t claim that it does.
Treeapp works with local teams who know the landscapes they are working in and brings in forestry expertise to support planting, monitor progress and understand how well the trees are surviving.
There are a few things that matter particularly in how this work is carried out:
- The right trees for the right place: Treeapp does not plant monocultures. It works with a wide range of species suited to the area being restored.
- Keeping the work visible: Treeapp uses platforms including Restor to track its planting activity and help prevent trees from being counted twice.
- Thinking beyond the planting day: Treeapp says its sites are protected through agreements with local governments and communities so the land cannot simply be repurposed or sold afterwards.

Why Tanzania, and Why the Western Usambara Mountains?
The trees we fund through Treeapp are being planted in Tanzania’s Western Usambara Mountains, a region where restoring lost forest has become increasingly important.
Treeapp estimates that around 85% of the area’s forest cover has been lost since the 1970s. Rather than approaching that challenge with a single type of tree, its work across Tanzania brings together 35 different species, chosen for different roles within the landscape.
Native species such as Markhamia lutea are planted along mountainsides to help stabilise the soil and reduce the risk of landslides.
Each tree we fund becomes part of a wider effort already taking place on the ground in Tanzania, with local knowledge and long-term restoration at its centre.
How Our Partnership Supports Local Communities
In the Western Usambara Mountains, restoring forest cannot be separated from the people who live and work there. Farming is part of daily life, so Treeapp’s approach is designed to support both nature and local livelihoods.
Agroforestry plays an important role. Some species are planted alongside crops, helping farmers continue using their land while supporting greater biodiversity.
The work also creates paid opportunities locally. Treeapp has worked with people from more than 200 villages across the Lushoto district, with particular attention given to creating opportunities for women.
So the impact goes beyond the trees themselves, supporting the people, farms and communities restoring the region for the long term.
How Our Impact Is Tracked
Planting the trees is only one part of the story. Just as important is being able to see what happens afterwards. Through Treeapp, we can track the progress of our planting over time, including the number of trees planted, the area of land reforested, estimated CO₂ absorption and the working days created for local communities.
The planting sites are monitored in several ways. Treeapp uses satellite imagery and drone footage to follow changes on the ground, while local planting teams provide regular photographs, videos and updates as the trees establish and grow.
That visibility matters: it gives us progress we can follow, measure and share as it grows.
Growing Towards a Moresand Forest
More holidays booked mean more trees planted, gradually turning thousands of individual contributions into a forest.
When we reach 30,000 trees, we will establish a dedicated Moresand forest.
It won’t happen overnight. Reforestation takes time. Trees need to be planted carefully, protected and given the chance to become part of a healthy landscape.
In the meantime, every tree planted adds to the restoration already under way in Tanzania.
