At Siyam World in the Maldives, the best seat in the house now has a steering wheel. JetCar Cinema, announced in October 2026, is the resort’s new floating drive-in, and quite possibly the most glamorous way to watch a film anywhere in the Indian Ocean. Guests take the wheel of a retro-styled JetCar, cruise across the lagoon and park before a big screen floating on the water, just as dusk settles over Noonu Atoll.
Each session welcomes up to four guests, with the film, drinks and popcorn already taken care of, and nothing but warm Maldivian water and open night sky all around.
The drive-in has always been about the arrival as much as the film. At Siyam World, the arrival is a drive across the lagoon.
What is JetCar Cinema?
JetCar Cinema is a lagoon-based drive-in movie experience at Siyam World. Guests drive a JetCar, a car-shaped watercraft, across the resort’s lagoon and watch a film on a floating big screen, with drinks and popcorn included.
It takes the classic American drive-in and moves it from the car park to the sea. There are no rows of seats, just one JetCar, one screen and the Maldivian night. With a maximum of four guests per session, it is an intimate way to watch a film.
How a JetCar Cinema Night Unfolds
- Slip behind the wheel: The evening begins in the driver’s seat of a JetCar, a watercraft styled like a vintage convertible, complete with round headlights and a car-inspired dashboard.
- Cruise across the lagoon: Guests steer the JetCar out across Siyam World’s lagoon: the classic drive-in, taken off the road and onto open water.
- Park on the water: In place of a car park, the JetCar comes to rest on the lagoon itself, front row before a big screen floating on the water.
- Popcorn, drinks, roll the film: With drinks and popcorn to hand, the film plays beneath the open night sky, warm Maldivian water stretching out on every side.
- Back to the island : After the credits roll, it is back across the lagoon to Siyam World, with a holiday story few will have heard before.
Inside the JetCar
Siyam World introduced JetCars at its water sports centre in November 2024, at the same time as sister resort Sun Siyam Olhuveli.
Each JetCar is powered by a Yamaha engine and fitted with built-in Bluetooth speakers. Sun Siyam describes the controls as intuitive for beginners and experienced water sports fans alike. Siyam World also lists JetCar rides among its must-do experiences, separate from JetCar Cinema.
JetCar Cinema Price and What is Included
JetCar Cinema costs USD 499 per couple, with each additional guest at USD 59, up to a maximum of four guests. Prices are in US dollars and subject to a 10% service charge and 17% T-GST. Prior booking is required, and guests can contact their Ambassador at Siyam World for more information.
Who JetCar Cinema Suits
- Couples and honeymooners: Siyam World describes JetCar Cinema as a date night with a difference, and it is priced per couple. A screen floating on the lagoon, a JetCar for two and the open night sky make it a natural centrepiece for a honeymoon or anniversary.
- Friends and small groups: Each session welcomes up to four guests, so two couples or a small group of friends can share the screen.
- Celebrations: For a birthday or a milestone trip, it delivers exactly what the resort promises: a holiday story worth bringing home.
How JetCar Cinema Compares with other Maldives Movie Nights
Several Maldives resorts screen film outdoors. This is how JetCar Cinema compares:
| Experience | Resort | Setting | What Sets it Apart |
| JetCar Cinema | Siyam World | Floating big screen in the lagoon | A JetCar drive across the lagoon to the screen |
| Cinema by Moonlight | Siyam World | Aboard a traditional Maldivian dhoni on the water | A dhoni fitted with a projector, plush seating and beanbags |
| Cinema Paradiso | Soneva Jani | Overwater cinema with a screen on the lagoon | Bluetooth headphones keep the cinema silent for the island’s nesting wildlife |
Among these experiences, JetCar Cinema stands out by letting guests drive across the lagoon to the ocean.
Where is JetCar Cinema?
The floating screen sits in the lagoon of Siyam World Maldives, Sun Siyam’s five-star Lifestyle Collection resort in Noonu Atoll, which turns five on 28 October 2026. The journey there is part of the appeal: a seaplane from Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé reaches the island in approximately 40 minutes.
